Personal Background The photographer I have decided to pick is David Arky. He studied at the Art Center College of Design and Rochester Institute of Technology. He now inspires students by teaching at the International Center for Photography. He has taught there since 2001 and has influced lots of students with his career path. He has a wife and two kids which he finds inspiration from in Brooklyn.
Style Arky believes photography is not only a calling but also buisness. His work is pictures of still life. He captures stories through images of objects put together in a certain order. Still life tells stories just through objects put in a certain order. Arky has different types of objects he captures. He has images such as food and drinks. He also has X-ray still life and jewelry/watches. His style is interesting and you can interpret it in any way.
Philosphy Arkys final images are designed to achieve an end. He´s known for not only his still life but also for how his images are used. He´s seen photography as the visual language. They are crafted in specific ways that invoke ways to solve problems. He combines instinctive art with visualizing solutions.
Influences His images influence me to get creative and use true imagination to create my own images. His style has deep meaning and sparks creativity. He has inspired me to get objects with a deep and powerful meaning that can inspire others. These photos seem simple but can be interpreted many ways in whatever imagination you have. These images can be used any way you want and inspires me to create images that look simple but have many different waves of creativity.
Compare and Contrast.
Pulsar (David Arky)
Wealth.
For this photo i put one of my watches on a mirror. I angled my phone so you could see the reflection of the watch. This was a bit difficult because I did not have the watch Arky used. I also did not have a white reflective stand so I used a mirror.
Brocolli_Soy+Sauce (David Arky)
Vegetarianism.
For this image I did not have any broccoli or soy sauce. I had to use cauliflower but it's not green like brocolli. I used chocolate syrup because I also do not have soy sauce. This was difficult to recreate because I didn´t have what Arky used but I tried my best.
Peach_Greek+Yougurt (David Arky)
Sweet Treat.
For this image I also didn´t have the materials he used. I used a potatoe instead of of a peach. I used sour cream instead of yougurt. It still looks somewhat similar with a white background too.
Artist statement Taking these images sparked lots of creativity. It was a bit difficult to capture them perfectly since I don´t have many things to recreate at home. He has many great images with lots of great meaning so it was hard to choose. The first picture (Wealth) represents that someone could have nice things but they could be financially struggling. The second picture (Vegetarianism) represents how vegetarians can still make boring vegetables taste sweet and appetizing. The last picture (Sweet treat) can be shown like how simple things can taste sweet and could be a treat.
